Style diaries: Izabel Goulart’s fashion rules
Brazilian model Izabel Goulart is one of the most photographed women on the planet. As a former Victoria’s Secret Angel, she sure knows how to work unexpected looks, may it be on the Cannes red carpet or Copacabana beach. The 33-year-old model, known for her brand of sultry glamour, shares some of her style rules
. Pair ‘movie star’ sunglasses with a swimsuit
Throughout her 20-year career, the Brazilian bombshell, labelled the fittest model in the world, has been famed for her high-octane style. Her expertly toned physique and leonine tresses make for a magnetic combination, but she also advises that accessories can make every look striking.
According to her, “No matter what you’re wearing, sunglasses add that hint of mystery.” Pair them with anything: dresses, jeans, and swimsuits.
Wear mannish brogues with a tuxedo
On set with Jimmy Choo at the iconic Cap Estel Hotel, located just up the coast from Cannes’ famous Croisette, Goulart shows her midriff in a tuxedo paired with mannish brogues. Shoes are, she explains, central to the red-carpet recipe. She says, “It’s the shoes that really set the tone for an outfit, whether [they’re] heels or lace up flats.”
To finish the look, Goulart favors a mini clutch, in which she carries her evening essentials: “Lipstick, concealer, gum, and my phone. I really try and keep it edited—what else does a girl really need?”
Try sneakers for evening events
When it comes to fashion choices, Goulart is a fan of throw-on chic. “I always opt for something new, simple, and sexy. For me, it’s really important to keep things easy and not too fussy—you want to be as relaxed as possible so you can enjoy yourself.”
Taking that attitude one step further, she shows how to rock a silk ankle-sweeping gown paired with embellished sneakers.
Know your angles
With over four million Instagram followers and counting, Goulart is no stranger to a selfie. But when it comes to taking that perfect shot, she says there’s no exact science.
“When it comes to getting the best shots, whether it’s for an editorial or for Instagram, you need three ingredients: good lighting, good angles, and of course, a good photographer! With selfies, you don’t want to try too hard. I always think the best images capture a candid moment,” she shares.
For red carpet events, Goulart focuses on her skin. “On the day of the red carpet, I start with a skin glow facial. Then it’s time for hair and makeup. My go-to look really focuses on skin: you want to keep it natural, but radiant,” she shares.
“I then keep everything else fairly low-key, but I’ll always have a slick of black eyeliner to define the eyes. You have to remember that it takes a team of professionals to nail a perfect red-carpet look—hair, makeup, styling, it’s a whole process.”
In the Philippines, Jimmy Choo is located at Shangri-La Plaza East Wing and Rustan’s Makati.
